Should you really take the chance to drive on a flat tire?

Should you really take the chance to drive on a flat tire?

Nothing is more frustrating than a flat tire (Who can relate? 😉).

As soon as your tire loses air pressure, it is considered as a flat tire. An incorrect tire pressure, if the tire is defect, a puncture or an old (and used) tire can cause flat tire.

When you realize one of your tires is flat, you should not drive your car! (No! Do not even try to reach the nearest service center!) Driving on a flat tire may be dangerous.

1. It can damage the tire structure.

2. It can damage your wheel and, therefore, your vehicle.

Some important components such as brake lines, rotors, fenders and even suspension parts could be damaged and making your car unsafe (and involving unnecessary fees!)

3. It reduces handling and control of your vehicle and can cause an accident.

What to do when a flat happens?

When it happens (which, of course, we do not want), the best thing you can do is to pull off the road and out of incoming traffic. Then, make sure it is safe to get out of your car. If you have a spare tire, you can remove the flat tire and install the spare one to drive to a repair shop. If you do not have a spare tire or do not feel comfortable installing it, we recommend you call a towing truck.

To avoid any possible flats, you should check and adjust your tire pressure as often as possible. The recommended pressure for your tires is listed in your vehicle's owner's manual.

A flat tire can be repaired! (by a professional!)

If the flat is caused by a puncture with a cut within less than 6 mm, the tire can usually be repaired! However, don't delay, as the damage can get worse.

If your tire needs to be changed, you can choose a tire of the same brand, size, profile, speed rating and load as your other tires. This way, you can change only one tire, if the other three are not too worn, of course.

Do not forget your spare tire! (It also needs car and attention!) Is it old or used? Need a new one? Contact us for more information.
